Sino-implant (II) – a safe, highly effective 2-rod contraceptive implant marketed under the global brand name Levoplant – is manufactured by Shanghai Dahua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The product is composed of two thin, flexible, silicone rods, each containing 75 mg levonorgestrel (a synthetic form of the hormone progestin). These are inserted under the skin of a woman's arm by a trained health care provider. Levoplant was prequalified by the World Health Organization in June 2017.
