Sustainability & Scale Up
The addition of permanent contraceptive methods to any family planning program should be planned and implemented with sustainabiity and the potential for scale-up in mind. To gauge whether a program should be scaled up, it is important to understand the program costs, and cost-effectiveness; to have sustainable funding sources; to ensure there is enough of a demand for services to continue providing them; and to have buy in from key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, the communities in which the program will be available, and the health workforce. This section of the Toolkit provides resources to assist with incorporating sustainability measures into your program and planning for scale-up from the beginning of the implementation process. These include costing tools, assessments, and guides for scaling up family planning programs.
