Applicable Websites

The policies on this page apply to websites managed by the Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project at the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP). K4Health-managed websites include K4Health.org and K4Health Toolkits; Family Planning: A Global Handbook for Providers; the Global Digital Health Network; the Global Health eLearning Center; the Global Health Knowledge Collaborative and its KM Indicator Library; mHealth Knowledge; mHealth Evidence; the Knowledge Management Training Package for Global Health Programs; the Training Resource Package for Family Planning; and more.

Some K4Health-managed websites (e.g., the Global Health: Science and Practice journal, POPLINE, and Photoshare) have additional policies that apply to their specific service models.

Privacy Notice

This section explains what information K4Health collects when you visit one of our websites, and how we handle that information. The information we receive depends on which sites you visit and what you do while you are there.

If you visit our site to read or download information:

We collect and store only the following information about you: the IP address of the device and network you are using to access the Internet (this also gives us a location, down to the city level); the date and time you access our site; which pages you view while you visit our website; the words you search for, if any (although search terms are not associated with individual users); and the type and version of your web browser and operating system.

We use the information we collect to count the number of visitors to the different sections and pages of our websites, to find out what information is most viewed, and to better prioritize our web development needs. This information helps us make our websites more useful. 

This gathering/storing of information is separate from the activity described as monitoring in our Security Notice.

If you identify yourself by sending us an e-mail message or a completed contact or order form:

If you decide to send us personally identifying information (such as your email address or mailing address), we will use that personally identifying information to respond to your comment or suggestion and to count the number of people sending us comments.

We want to be very clear: We will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site unless you choose to provide such information to us.

Cookies and other information stored on your computer

K4Health websites use cookies. Cookies are small text files which are downloaded to your browser when you visit a website. Some aspects of website design rely on cookies to give you the best possible experience (for example, to show where you left off in a menu, or how far through a page you scrolled). We also set cookies from third-party applications such as Google Analytics (which gives us more information about site visits, without storing personally identifiable information) and AddThis (which helps us count how often website visitors share our content). This information helps us improve our websites.

Necessary Cookies: These cookies are essential to enabling your use of our website and its features. Without these cookies, services we would provide (such as permitting log-in into the service) cannot be provided.
 Examples:

• cookie-agreed: This cookie is set when you agree to our cookie policy.  It is set to expire a few months after you first receive it, so you are not asked about cookies every time you visit.
• SSESS(number string): This is the Drupal session id on a secure site.  The string of numbers that follows SSESS is the encrypted session id.  This is necessary for a secure login.

Functionality Cookies: These cookies improve your experience by enabling certain features, such as highlighting your position in a site's navigation.

 Examples:

• has-js: This cookie determines whether your browser has Javascript enabled, and is used to remember display preferences. It is deleted at the end of the session.
• Drupal.tableDrag.showWeight: This cookie helps handle the consistent navigation of tabbed pages and forms across a range of different browsers. It is set when you use pages where information appears in tabbed format. It is set to expire a few months after it is deployed.

Analytics Cookies: These cookies help us learn how well our website and services are performing. We use these cookies to understand and improve our website content and services. Examples:

• _ga: This cookie name is associated with Google Universal Analytics. This cookie is used to distinguish unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier. It is included in each page request in a site and used to calculate visitor, session, and campaign data for the sites analytics reports. By default, it is set to expire after 2 years, although this is customizable by website owners.
• NID: Another Google cookie, this one contains a unique ID Google uses to remember your preferences and other information, such as your preferred language (e.g. English) and whether or not you wish to have Google’s SafeSearch filter turned on.

You can access, manage, and delete cookies yourself, from your own browser. Please keep in mind that if you disable all cookies, certain portions of our websites may not work as intended. Security Notice

For website security purposes (i.e., to keep information on our websites secure and to protected against hacking) and to ensure that our online services remain available to all users, the K4Health Project works with website hosts and uses software programs to monitor network traffic and identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage.
